Annandale lies west of Sydney, about 5 kilometres from the CBD. Situated within the municipality of Leichhardt, the northern end of the suburb is on Rozelle Bay, part of Sydney Harbour.

Annandale is well serviced by Sydney Buses – a large number of buses run along Booth Street and Parramatta Road. The closest train station is Stanmore Station on the Inner West Line. There is also a light rail, with Lilyfield being the closest stop. Pedestrians and cyclists can enjoy a lovely journey along the foreshore all the way to Pyrmon and there is a pontoon jetty at Rozelle Bay.
